My Life with Spoons

Life with and without spoons

Hearing about the Spoon theory

helped me to name and understand my own story as well as hearing from others who sharing juggle multiple spoons in their lives. For me spoons are my units of strength , energy, resources that I need to keep going.

But those spoons can be very limited and can get used and disappear very fast when handling multiple health conditions, disabilities and other challenges. Painting, drawing and creativity really helps me as I am very visual person.

I would like to share one of my drawings about life with spoons Some of my own disabilities are often invisible and fluctuating and at times I receive "compliments" from people telling me: "You don't look disabled, ill. You look so well!". But my disabilities can become visible quite fast as my spoons are used, disappear, as I climb physically or metaforically the stairs in my life.

But I am still me, with or without spoons. I might look tired and I might need to hide and rest, but I am still me, I have many skills, gifts and abilities that I love to share with people. See me first, even as I juggle "spoons" in my spoonie life, even as I might run out of "spoons".

Juggling my spoons and climbing staircases of life helps me grow hope and grow resilience - through connecting the strength within me and within the wider world and people around me.

Yes I juggle my spoons every day, but I do that with Hope and gratitude, taking one day, one step at a time.
